FA/FILM 17

Hollywood: Old and New

This fully online introductory course will provide Web-based delivery of lectures and discussion groups complemented by the screenings and interviews of TVO's Saturday Night at the Movies. Key concepts in critical film analysis will be introduced and important themes in American film history will be examined. Students are asked to watch the two films per week screened on Saturday Night at the Movies and then to access lectures, post comments, and attend chat rooms via WebCT, a learning program for which they will be given access. Written assignments are to be submitted via the WebCT site.

This is not a course of watching movie, this is a course of critically analyzing movie, with this being said, every week you have to spend 4 hour on movie, 2 hour on lecture and probably 1 hour on book, if you want to get good grade. Weekly forum post that weight 3% each( you are very likely to get 1.5/3 which ends up losing 18% on forum post, so if you want to get in your elective don't take this) Four exams weight 10% each(online exams, only open for 30 mins, the exam is fair.....as long as you do the weekly work) Two short essays weight 10% each (You are not given any criteria to write this, short essays are based on forum post, so you pick one of your forum post and improve it.....again there is no criteria, every thing is base on TA or professor subjective thinking) I am not saying it is hard, you have possibility to get good grade, but prepared to work hard on ......an elective course....even harder than you major courses......

This course is not what you expect, it is far from being a bird course. There are so many errors and glitches with the online system, which reflects your mark if you mess up while doing a quiz and expectations are out of this world. Save yourself money, avoid this course, don't get Yorked. You are better off picking another course, save yourself and take this advice.
